Cleaner water and better learning spaces for students
STUDENTS and teachers at Millennium Childrens’ Vision Centre in Morobe now have improved access to clean water and better learning spaces, following the official handover of a water security structure, two 9,000-litre rainwater tanks and 30 student desks.
The equipment was delivered through the Morobe Water Security Project, a partnership between the Australian Government and the Morobe Provincial Government to support safe and reliable water for schools and communities across Morobe.
Through the project, 35 water security structures have been delivered to schools across seven districts in Morobe Province, supporting students, teachers and communities with cleaner water and useful spaces for school and community activities.
Millennium Children’s Vision Centre is an early childhood centre in the Busu settlement near Lae City. It was established by the local community and selected for support following a recommendation from the education division and assessment by the Provincial Working Group.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Australian Consul-General Brenton Kanowski said Australia was proud to work side by side with Morobe to deliver practical, locally led support for children, families and communities.

Cleaner water helps keep children healthy and in school, whilst better learning spaces give them the dignity and opportunity they deserve. Morobe provincial administration - director national functions, Fiona Gesa, thanked Australia for the continued partnership, and encouraged the community to take good care of the facilities provided to them, “Morobe provincial administration values the strong partnership with Australia in delivering support for our schools and communities. For Millennium Children’s Vision Centre here in Ward 12 of Ahi LLG, improved access to clean water and new student desks will make a big difference – from sitting on the floor to now having desks and a roof over your heads, students can now learn more effectively and safely.
She added, “This project shows what can be achieved when we work together. This is an investment in our children’s future.”
The project supports Papua New Guinea’s National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Policy and reflects the PNG-Australia Partnership’s commitment to practical investments that strengthen local service delivery and improve everyday life.
