Countdown to International Women in Mining Day 2026
AS International Women in Mining (IWiM) Day approaches, New Porgera Limited (NPL) celebrates and recognises the remarkable women making an impact across the global mining industry.
NPL is proud to join this global movement by honouring the contributions of our female employees across our operations.“We are counting down to 15 June with daily highlights of women from across NPL.“Today we feature Melinda Tay, project geologist with NPL’s mineral resources department.Melinda began her career in the mining and resources industry five years ago as a graduate geologist in Porgera. With a background in geology, she has since progressed to the role of project geologist. One of the proudest moments in her journey was being part of the restart team that helped bring the Mineral Resource Department - particularly the Resource Development Geology Section - back to life in December 2023.Working in a fast-paced and often male-dominated environment, Melinda has learned that resilience, honest communication, and building strong relationships are key to success. She believes that mistakes are part of the learning process, but what truly matters is how one chooses to respond and grow from them. To young women entering the industry, Melinda offers this advice: “Don’t shrink yourself. Ask questions, speak up and believe in the value of your voice. There is space for you to lead, contribute and thrive.”
