Cricket PNG has recognised the contribution of volunteers across the country as part of National Volunteers Day, celebrating individuals helping to grow the game in communities nationwide.

The Cricket PNG Game Development team on Friday, 22 May, paid tribute to all volunteer & Australia Volunteers International (AVI) Officer Mr Anthony Healy, who has spent the past 12 months supporting development programs, education initiatives and community engagement activities.

“As a volunteer it has been an absolute pleasure to be so warmly accepted into the Cricket PNG family,” Mr Healy said.

“The team have made me feel so welcome and have always encouraged any new and innovative special projects I have suggested. There has not been a day where I have not wanted to come to work.”

Mr Healy contributed to cricket numeracy programs in schools, community outreach and sports development initiatives during his assignment.

Reflecting on his experience, he said: “From celebrating PNG’s 50th anniversary with a game of Trobriand Cricket on September 15, 2025 to promoting cricket numeracy in schools, to playing two-up on the hallowed turf of Amini Park on Anzac Day Eve this year, Cricket PNG have afforded me the opportunity to continue my love of cricket, love of sport development and most importantly my love of my adopted country.”

“Rest assured, this country has given much more to me than I have ever given it,” he said.

Mr Healy also highlighted upcoming activities with the Cricket PNG development team.

“This week is massive. The team and I are training in the new learning centre, continuing Cricket Numeracy games and of course the training and launch of ‘Table Cricket’ with two new tables being delivered to Cheshire Services,” he said.

He also acknowledged volunteer contributor Mary Joyce Lin, saying she had done “a brilliant effort” as designer and editor of Cricket Numeracy in PNG Schools.
