Port Moresby,26th May,2026.
Member for North East Electorate, Hon. John Kaupa MP, in partnership with NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop, has delivered a truckload of food rations to the evicted residents of Portion 528, Last Block, Eight Mile in Port Moresby.
The assistance was provided to support families who were recently displaced following eviction actions carried out by a private developer while the matter remains before the courts.
The settlers, who are mostly from the Marawaka community residing at Eight Mile Last Block, expressed gratitude to Hon. John Kaupa for personally attending to their urgent needs immediately after Parliament sittings.
Hon. Kaupa assured the affected families that he would continue supporting them during this difficult period while also exploring alternative land settlement options for the displaced residents.
He said the food rations were intended to assist the families and children with basic needs until the ongoing land issues are properly addressed through legal processes.
The Portion 528 landlords, together with the National Housing Commission, led by Managing Director Mr. Abel Toll and staff member Mr. John Kume, are supporting the settlers in the court dispute concerning the ownership and development of the land.
Community leaders thanked Hon. John Kaupa MP and NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop for standing with vulnerable families during a challenging time and for ensuring that humanitarian support reached the affected people.
The settlers remain hopeful that justice will prevail and that a peaceful resolution will be reached regarding Portion 528, which they say belongs to the National Housing Commission.
