Hula Fisheries Project Initiated

The Hula Seafood Fisheries Project officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony held in Hula village, Central Province, on June 20, 2026.

Rigo MP Sir Ano Pala presided over the event, attended by various development partners and community members.

The Hula community, like many coastal areas, primarily relies on fishing for their livelihoods. However, they have encountered significant obstacles over the years, including insufficient storage facilities that lead to fish spoilage and loss of income. This initiative aims to resolve these issues and enhance fish preservation for the community.

In collaboration with KW Shipping Limited, the project is set to expand market opportunities, minimize post-harvest losses, and provide substantial economic benefits to fishermen, women, fish marketers, and their families. The ceremony marks a significant step towards hope, progress, and a promising future for the community, ultimately enhancing livelihoods and bolstering the local economy.

First Secretary to Sir Ano Pala, Uvenama Rova, noted that the project will feature the establishment of a seafood processing facility, where harvested marine and freshwater fish will be cleaned, processed, and packaged for commercial distribution. KW Shipping Limited will oversee the operations of the facility.

Sir Ano Pala highlighted that the launch of this project aligns with other developmental initiatives, such as the limestone project and the Rigo rice project, which require protein to sustain the workforce.

He emphasized that the community will retain a 51% ownership stake in the project, ensuring that benefits extend beyond the Hula community to neighboring areas.

Furthermore, Hula Coast President, Tau Tau, urged the community to take responsible stewardship of the facility, as its impact will resonate for future generations.
