John Kaupa Responds to Criticism Over Settlement-to-Suburb Projects

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – North East Member of Parliament, Hon. John Kaupa, has defended his ongoing settlement-to-suburb development projects following criticism from an aspiring candidate.

Speaking on the issue, Mr. Kaupa said the initiative is aimed at transforming informal settlements into well-planned suburban communities where residents can enjoy better housing, improved services, and greater opportunities.

“These projects are focused on giving our people proper living conditions, access to essential services, and a brighter future,” he said.

The North East MP also called on political opponents to wait until the official election writs are issued before making campaign-related criticisms, stressing that his priority remains on delivering real development for the people.

Mr. Kaupa confirmed that development efforts will continue in Farea and nearby communities.

In addition, he revealed that his office has secured 61 hectares of land to help resettle families who were previously evicted and are now in need of permanent housing.

He further noted that land in Papua New Guinea is not freely available, as ownership rests with customary landowners, the State, or private entities.
