Lutheran Shipping Services (LSS) welcomes new vessel

The 40-meter cargo and passenger catamaran was to dock at Asiawe Wharf in Vocopoint, Lae, on July 8, 2026, and was to be welcomed by ELC PNG leadership and staff, company representatives, and port officials. The official commissioning of the new vessel will take place on July 18, 2026.Designed for increased passenger and cargo capacity, the MV Karkar will play a vital role in improving trade routes, strengthening rural economies, and providing safe travel and much-needed transport services to coastal communities. The arrival of the MV Karkar reflects the commitment to innovation, safety, and excellent service.This vessel will not only expand LSS operational capacity but will also contribute to the economic growth of the region.The exact dates for the vessel's maiden voyage from Lae to Vanimo will be announced shortly. The newly built MV Karkar is an improved version, based on a thorough evaluation of five years of sailings with the MV Ialibu.It offers greater passenger comfort and a reduced environmental impact.
