NVS kicks off Highlands Region volunteer recruitment drive in Enga

THE National Volunteer Service (NVS) has started its Highlands Region Volunteer Recruitment drive in Enga Province last Thursday, marking a significant step towards empowering communities through volunteerism.

NVS aims to attract skilled, professional volunteers in Enga province who are eager to contribute to the social and economic development in their communities.

The initiative forms part of the NVS's efforts to strengthen volunteer participation in the Highlands Region and expand opportunities for citizens to engage in meaningful community services across the region as well as boost service delivery at the ward level.

Enga Province Acting Director - Community Development, Ms Dorothy Kukum, on behalf of the Enga Provincial Administration described NVS's visit as timely and an important collaboration that would align with the province's development aspirations.

"This volunteer recruitment initiative will create pathways for our people to contribute positively to the development of Enga and the nation as a whole," Ms Kukum said.

"We are encouraged by this possible partnership because there is strong interest from our people, churches and communities who are already actively involved in volunteer programs in the province."

Ms Kukum further noted that volunteerism plays a vital role in building responsible citizens and strengthening community networks, particularly among young people seeking productive avenues to contribute to society.

NVS Highlands Regional Coordinator, Hanson Pato, acknowledged the commitment shown by the Enga provincial leaders in supporting volunteerism and ensuring that services reach the people in remote parts of the province.

NVS 's visit will continue across the seven (7) provinces in both the upper and lower Highlands region, with the aim of forging partnerships and recruiting and placing professional volunteers and partner organizations who can be mobilized for community development projects as well as civic engagement activities in the agriculture, health and education sectors as well as other national development priorities.

This provincial engagement aligns with the National Executive Council (NEC) directives, NEC Decisions 220 and 335, respectively of 2025, which mandates NVS to scale up volunteer placement numbers to 900 professional volunteers nationwide by the end the year.

NVS believes that volunteerism remains a powerful tool for nation-building and social transformation, particularly in empowering people to become active participants in shaping the future of their communities.

The National Volunteer Service is a state agency under the Ministry of Defense responsible for recruiting, training, and placing professional volunteers in remote communities.
