NVS set to deploy volunteers to Central Province

FOLLOWING a successful site visit to the five districts of Central

Province, the National Volunteer Service (NVS) is now looking forward

to deploying volunteers to boost service delivery in the province.

“As stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed

between the Central Provincial Government and the National Volunteer

Service of Papua New Guinea (NVS) on April 9, 2025, 16 volunteers

have been identified and will be placed in its 16 LLGs,” said Eddie

Manga, Central Province Volunteer Programme coordinator.

“These volunteers will work towards achieving the overall improvement

of the local economy and add value to the quality and efficiency of

socio-economic services through training and program intervention

ensuring the continuity in agriculture, cooperative societies, SMEs and

other services.”

Manga acknowledged the vision of the Central Governor Rufina Peter

through the NVS-CPG partnership, to focus on promoting cash crops

and commodity crop production that would create market avenues and

open economic corridors contributing to the overall goal of agro-

economic development of Central Province and its communities.

A particular emphasis is to coordinate the farmer, SME and corporative

society participating in the establishment of cocoa, coffee and other

cash crop extension programmes in each of its 16 LLGs.

Manga said that a successful site assessment was carried out last

month throughout the five districts of Central province and volunteers

have been identified.

Following this, a Pre Service Orientation (PSO), an induction training for

these volunteers and the host organisations, is set to start in next week

by NVS for stakeholders to initiate plans and set the phase for the roll

out of the main programme.

He said that after the PSO, a tri-party contract of engagement will be

signed where volunteers are tied to be engaged as national volunteers

serving the Central Provincial Government where volunteers would be

deployed to their respective sites with clear work plans and set targets

to achieve.

The National Volunteer Service is a state agency under the Ministry of

Defense responsible for recruiting, training, and placing professional

volunteers in remote communities.
