Pacific ICT ministers to meet in Port Moresby

PAPUA New Guinea will be hosting the Forum Pacific ICT Ministers Meeting (FIMM) and Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) from July 22 to 23 at APEC Haus, Port Moresby.The meetings will include participation from more than 18 countries, along with representatives from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFs). 

Senior officials will meet on July 22 to prepare policy papers and updates, while ministers will gather on July 23 to discuss key issues such as the impacts of social media, opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, and progress on the Pacific ICT and Digital Transformation Action Plan (PIDTAP).Ministers will discuss key regional priorities including:


  • Tackling negative impacts of social media;

  • Exploring opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence; 

  • Monitoring progress on the Pacific ICT and Digital Transformation Action Plan (PIDTAP); and

  • Strengthening ICT cooperation and connectivity across the Pacific.

Hosting this meeting positions Papua New Guinea at the heart of regional ICT leadership. It:


  • Strengthens PNG’s role in shaping the Digital Pacific;

  • Builds partnerships that support our digital economy; 

  • Encourages innovation and inclusive ICT development; and

  • Enhances cooperation to overcome shared challenges like connectivity gaps and limited infrastructure

Alongside the meetings, the Digital Transformation Summit 2026 (DTS26) EXPO will also take place at APEC Haus (July 20–22). The Expo will showcase new technologies, startups, and government digital initiatives, connecting industry solutions directly with policymakers.
