PM MARAPE DELIVERS K5 MILLION RELIEF PACKAGE FOR MANUS, UNVEILS MAJOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT VISION
Prime Minister James Marape has reaffirmed the National Government’s commitment to the people of Manus Province following the recent Titan Ridge volcanic eruptions, announcing an immediate K5 million disaster relief package to support affected communities.
During his visit to Manus today, Prime Minister Marape met directly with residents impacted by the disaster and assured them that the Government would provide urgent assistance to help families recover. The relief funding will be used to address critical needs including food supplies, healthcare services, emergency support, and other humanitarian requirements across the province’s seven Local Level Governments.
The Prime Minister’s presence on the ground highlighted his commitment to engaging directly with communities during times of crisis. Throughout his leadership, Mr Marape has consistently travelled across Papua New Guinea to meet citizens, assess challenges firsthand, and ensure government support reaches those most in need.
While addressing local leaders and residents, the Prime Minister also outlined a transformative economic agenda for Manus Province. Central to this vision is the proposed establishment of a Manus Special Economic Zone, which would offer tax incentives and corporate tax exemptions designed to attract investment, encourage business growth, and create employment opportunities for local people.
The proposed initiative aims to position Manus as a key economic hub by leveraging its strategic location and untapped development potential. It forms part of the Government’s broader agenda to drive sustainable economic growth and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
Prime Minister Marape further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects that will strengthen connectivity, improve essential services, and support economic participation throughout the province.
He assured Manus residents that the National Government remains fully committed to both immediate recovery efforts and the province’s long-term development.
As communities continue rebuilding following the volcanic eruption, the Prime Minister’s visit delivered a strong message of solidarity and support.
