SOLOMON Airlines has announced the official launch of its new scheduled service between Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and Honiara, Solomon Islands, commencing July 7, 2026.

The new route marks an important milestone in enhancing air connectivity between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, supporting increased tourism, business travel, and people-to-people exchange across the region.  The airline hopes that with enough support from local & international travelers, the route will become sustainable in its own right over time, with the support of codeshare and interline airline partners also crucial for the services success.

Inaugural flight celebration - Port Moresby International Airport

The departure of the inaugural flight will be marked with a special airport ceremony featuring:

  • Traditional cultural performances by Pacific Adventist University (PAU) students

  • Official addresses from Solomon Airlines representatives and key stakeholders

  • A water cannon salute for the arriving aircraft

  • Commemorative photo opportunities

  • Presentation of inaugural flight certificates to passengers

  • A formal boarding ceremony for invited guests and travellers

The inaugural service will also include participating digital content creators, including Morokoi and Fontygoddess, who will be travelling on the inaugural flight to Honiara to capture and share the journey experience.

Enhanced passenger experience

Passengers travelling on the new service will benefit from an improved travel experience across both Business and Economy Class cabins.

Inflight catering will feature a variety of fresh, regionally inspired meal options across both directions of travel, complemented by light desserts and refreshments.

Lounge access - Port Moresby

Eligible Solomon Airlines passengers will have access to the Air Niugini Paradise Lounge at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby.

Lounge access is available to Business Class passengers and Belama Max, Plus, and Business members travelling on eligible Solomon Airlines or partner-operated services.

The Paradise Lounge offers complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating designed to enhance the pre-flight experience.

Strengthening regional connectivity

Solomon Airlines said the introduction of the Port Moresby–Honiara service reflects its ongoing commitment to improving connectivity across the Pacific region and enhancing convenience for travellers between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

“This new service represents an important step in strengthening ties between our two nations, supporting both tourism and business travel while improving access and convenience for our customers,” the airline said.

Originally planned for 30 June, the inaugural service has been rescheduled to 7 July following final operational preparations. The airline confirms that all infrastructure approvals are now in place and operations are ready to start.
